There are thousands of articles online about what women want men to wear.
But here's the problem: all of them say the same things – tailored suits, leather jackets, etc.
I started thinking:
Where are they getting this information from? Do they actually ask women or is this the opinion of the author?
They never say. So – I took matters into my own hands.
I interviewed 15 different women worldwide to once and for all find out what women want men to wear and what they find the most attractive.
Today, I am sharing the results with you – here are the 11 things women want you to wear!
1. Women Love Men With Stylish Footwear
As mentioned by 87% of the women I interviewed, excellent footwear was the top mentioned item they find most attractive. Research backs this up as well.
Allen Edmonds did a study in 2013 that found that 64% of women judge a man’s fashion sense based on his footwear.
Shoes are the window to your style – wear the wrong ones, and you'll telegraph a less-than-ideal message. If they look flimsy, she'll suspect you're a cheapskate. If they're ratty and worn-down, she'll think you don't care about your appearance (and will wonder what else you don't care about).
The top footwear options that were mentioned by these women were boots and simple sneakers.
When it comes to boots, you have a few options, including Chukka boots, Chelsea boots, and Wing-Tip boots. Any of these options add a masculine edge to any outfit that women will find irresistible. Boots also add height and make your feet appear larger – which is never a bad thing 😉
When it comes to simple sneakers, you can’t go wrong with a simple pair of leather tennis shoes. There are a few types of shoes every man should own and you can click here to discover all 10 of the shoes you need to own now!
2. Women Love A Stylish Timepiece
The second most mentioned item that women find most attractive on men is a stylish watch. Finding the perfect watch can be challenging – but not impossible.
You need to understand the different watch styles, which include the following:
- Dress Watch: Thin, subtle, and formal. This is an excellent style for black-tie affairs.
- Field Watch: A watch designed for rough conditions. This is ideal for the outdoorsman.
- Diving Watch: Sporting the thickest case of them all, this watch is designed for those amongst you that are more nautically inclined.
- Aviator's Watch: A style that often uses a bezel, GMT chronometer, and sometimes the ability to track multiple timezones. It also uses a larger crown designed for turning while wearing pilot gloves.
- Racing Watch: Very showy in comparison to other styles. It often features a tachymeter scale that allows a driver to make speed calculations.
- Digital Watches: A watch that displays time with digits rather than a dial.
- Smart Watches: This is a kind of digital watch that offers all the features you'd find on your smartphone.
- Fashion Watch: A watch manufactured by a brand that doesn't make the majority of their revenue from watch sales.
From there, it’s up to you about a lot of your options. You can go for an oversized watch, a heavy or light watch, a metal band or leather band – the choices are endless.
Understand the water-resistance of your watch and the movement of your watch is essential as well. In short – quartz is battery operated, and your movement powers mechanical.
Heirloom watches came up quite often when talking to the women I interviewed. They loved the fact that a watch has a backstory and has a deeper meaning to it. This is also true of accessories in general, which we’ll get to in a bit.
Research the must-know pieces of information on watches and make an informed decision on what you choose – women will love it.
3. Women Love Men In Perfectly Fitted Jeans
Coming in at number 3, women loved perfect fitting jeans. When I asked one of them what they meant precisely, here is what she said:
“The perfect pair of jeans isn’t too tight or too loose. It should fit well, not show off any of his ankles, and should show off his butt well. We love a man with a nice ***.” (You can fill in the blank.)
So now the question is, how do you find the perfect pair of jeans? First, you need to understand the five different types of jean fit and which one will work best for you.
A good rule of thumb is to assume that the sizing label indicates the body type meant for the jeans. The five types include: skinny, slim, regular, relaxed, and loose.
You have to be brutally honest with yourself on this one. Understand your body type – and get the most flattering pair of jeans for you.
No woman wants to be with a man wearing jeans tighter than hers…
When it comes to length, you should have a slight break at your shoes but no more. You'll also want to understand the different washes of jeans and the difference between selvage and raw denim.
4. Women Love Men In Boxer Briefs
You knew they were going to be here – boxer briefs. Nine women mentioned this underwear type, explicitly stating that it was the most flattering and revealing pair a man can buy. Truth be told – they aren’t wrong.
This hybrid style combines the close fit of men's briefs (thanks to Lycra or a unique fiber added to the stretchable fabric) with the shape of men's boxers.
You get the best of both worlds with men's boxer briefs. There's a bit of extra fabric that covers more of the thigh area. The genitals feel very comfortable and well-supported.
Nothing seems too tight, too loose, or exposed overall. That's why these are the most versatile type of underwear in the bunch. When in doubt – be brave with boxer briefs.
The best part of boxer briefs – they’re compatible with any body type. This is why they’re the most popular style for men’s underwear.
Feel free to experiment – just understand that some underwear styles are not compatible with your body type. Find the best underwear for your body type and wear it with confidence. When in doubt – wear boxer briefs.
5. Women Love Men In A Tailored Suit
Another no brainer – a tailored suit comes in at number 5 with seven mentions. If you’ve been reading my content for a while, you’ll know the most important part of a suit is the fit.
It doesn’t matter if you spend $15,000 on a suit or $150 – the fit is paramount. A poorly fitting suit will never look right on the wearer, regardless of the quality or detailing.
You want to find a good tailor that will cut your suit to flatter your strengths and hide your weaknesses. For this reason alone, a man should consider custom clothing; with a suit covering 90% of your body, the message it sends more often than not trumps anything that may come from your mouth.
A custom-made or bespoke suit will flatter more than a made-to-measure suit, which in turn will have a better fit than an off the rack suit.
Once you nail the fit, you’ll want to look at the fabric and color choices you have as well as the small details. You’ll want something that you feel comfortable in and compliments your skin color and body shape for suit color. For instance, dark colors will have a more slimming effect on your appearance.
This may seem like a lot – but don’t worry – I’ve got you covered. Click here to read the ultimate guide to buying the perfect suit!
6. Women Love A Man's Signature Scent
Number six on this list was the perfect fragrance. It's interesting this is so low as a man's scent is often the #1 factor for women in choosing a potential partner.
Researchers in Europe have published a study in the Personality and Individual Differences Journal about men's and women's “mate selection” factors. It shows women rate olfactory (smell) cues as more important than visual cues. So don’t underestimate a woman’s sense of smell – it’s pretty sensitive.
To find the perfect fragrance – you have to understand your body chemistry. To do this, you must test the fragrance on your body and smell them. A comfortable place to do this is in a department store (just be careful of over-ambitious salespeople).
From there, it’s a matter of picking a fragrance you and others like a lot. It’s interesting to note that most people will like designer fragrances because they are made for a wide-reaching audience. Niche fragrances are much more bold and unique – making them have less of a universal appeal than designer fragrances.
Some of the most popular men’s fragrances include:
- Creed Aventus
- 1 Million by Paco Rabanne
- Bleu de Chanel
- Dior Sauvage
- Tom Ford Noir Extreme
- Armani Code
- Dolce & Gabbana The One
- Versace Eros
- Acqua Di Gio

7. Women Love A Man In A Fitted T-Shirt
Since the 50’s when James Dean and Marlon Brando wore fitted t-shirts in Rebel Without a Cause and A Streetcar Named Desire, respectively, women have loved a man in a fitted t-shirt.
To get the perfect t-shirt, there are a few rules you should follow. In general, a well-fitting shirt is never restrictive and should allow for comfortable movement. Skintight tops should only be worn for sport.
When it comes to choosing the style and color – those are entirely up to you. White is the most versatile as it compliments all skin tones but is also the most dangerous to wear.
When it comes to style – crew necks are suitable for men with a small chest or sloped shoulders. They help in creating an illusion of broader shoulders, giving your body more proportion. V-necks are perfect for shorter guys because they create an illusion of length and height, elongating the neck. They provide balance to men with long necks and narrow faces.
I would steer clear of deep v-necks and scoop neck t-shirts as they are only fashion trends and go out of style very quickly.
8. Women Love It When You Roll Your Sleeves
Another no-brainer on this list – a button-down with the rolled sleeves comes in at number 8. To be fair, a lot of women mentioned forearms as being attractive. But, I couldn’t include it on this list as you can’t wear forearms unless you’re Hannibal Lecter…
In almost every poll done online or through scientific means, women find your forearms to be the most attractive part of your body. Why is this?
Showing your forearms off is a sign of casual cool and confidence. It shows you aren’t afraid to get to work doing something physical, and women love to see muscular forearms as they can feel protected near you.
It’s important to roll your sleeves the correct way – it can’t be too sloppy or too tight. To learn exactly how to roll your sleeves correctly, click here for my breakdown of all the ways you can roll your shirt sleeves!
9. Women Love A Long-Sleeve Henley
The most surprising clothing article to make this list – a henley – comes in at #9.
A henley is a collarless shirt with a buttoning placket or “fly” in the front. The placket is usually two or three inches long and fastens with anywhere from one to five buttons.
The name “henley” comes from Henley-on-Thames's town, in England, where the local rowing team wore the style for their uniforms.
Henleys can be long-sleeved or short-sleeved. Short-sleeved versions look a lot like a polo shirt without the turndown collar, while long-sleeved ones resemble a sweater with a narrow (and buttoning) V-neck.
The most significant advantage of a henley is that it’s different from what most men are wearing. Every guy can pull off a polo shirt – it takes real skill to wear a henley correctly.
Another benefit of a henley is that the v-cut in the front can send a signal of masculine sexuality. To achieve this, you need to have a good physique – remember your body is just as important as the clothes you put on it.
10. Women Love Crisp Dress Shirts
Dress shirts were another item that surprised me on this list. The women who spoke about them mentioned dress shirts that were fitted and unique.
The men’s dress shirt is a button-up shirt with a collar and long sleeves. It's cut differently from the sport shirt which is made to be worn open-necked and looks awkward with a tie.
The dress shirt is designed to carry a jacket and tie but can be worn without one or the other or with neither. Various shirts with different sorts of collars and cuffs are appropriate for different attire ranges, and many can run the gamut of formality.
Over the past half-century, the dress shirt has gone from being an undergarment to holding a prominent place in many outfits. This is why it's available in so many more colors and patterns than the plain white ubiquitous of days past.
To look attractive in a dress shirt, you need to nail the fit and the color. Don’t be afraid of getting a bolder color or pattern. Going outside of your comfort zone is extremely important and will make you stand out. Two of the women I interviewed mentioned they love paisley dress shirts. Just remember more texture = less formal.
11. Women Love Men In Accessories
Another one of the most mentioned items that women find attractive on men is accessories. We already mentioned watches, but the other most mentioned men’s accessories were bracelets and rings.
When choosing a bracelet, it isn't that different from the role of any other piece of jewelry, like a necklace or a ring. They're to be a noticed accent — not the centerpiece of your outfit, but a distinct part of the look.
The most basic rule you need to follow when wearing a bracelet is – don’t overdo it. This goes for any accessories but especially bracelets, as it’s easy to stack a lot of them on one wrist.
When it comes to rings, you’ve got tons of options to experiment with. To understand what the best men’s ring is for you, you need to pick the right style and material. You have to choose from the following basic men's ring types – signet rings, wedding rings, pinky rings, and thumb rings.
